Best Mini PC for Jellyfin: A Spec-Based Checklist

Date: 2026-10-24. Jellyfin version: v12.3 (https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/releases/tag/v12.3), as pinned in our Jellyfin guides (05/07).
For Jellyfin, choose a mini PC by its Intel GPU, not its CPU speed. Hardware transcoding through Quick Sync depends on the GPU generation, which decides HEVC 10-bit and AV1 support. Check the exact codec rows in Jellyfin's docs before buying, then compare the example models below.
What the Jellyfin docs say to look for
From Jellyfin's Intel hardware acceleration guide:
| Codec | Intel support needed (per Jellyfin docs) |
|---|---|
| H.264 8-bit decode/encode | Any Intel GPU that supports Quick Sync Video |
| HEVC 8-bit decode/encode | Gen 9 Skylake (6th-gen Core) and newer |
| HEVC 10-bit decode/encode | Gen 9.5 Kaby Lake (7th-gen Core), Apollo Lake, Gemini Lake and newer |
| AV1 8/10-bit decode | Gen 12 Tiger Lake (11th-gen Core) and newer |
| AV1 8/10-bit encode | Gen 12.5 DG2 / ARC A-series, Gen 12.7 Meteor Lake (Core Ultra 1st gen) and newer |
Other points from the same guide:
- Avoid "F" models. Intel CPUs ending in "F" have no integrated GPU.
- Prefer newer chips. Ice Lake, Jasper Lake, Elkhart Lake and older are "losing support for QSV on Linux". Jasper Lake and Elkhart Lake don't have AV1 acceleration.
- HDR tone mapping works on all Intel GPUs that have HEVC 10-bit decoding.
- Intel iGPUs and ARC have no limit on concurrent encode sessions (the docs' contrast is with NVIDIA NVENC).
- Check any CPU's Quick Sync support on Intel ARK before buying.
Jellyfin also has a beginner Hardware Selection Guide.
Buying checklist
- Is it an Intel CPU with an iGPU (not an "F" model)? Check ARK.
- Is it a 7th-gen Core / Gemini Lake or newer, if you have HEVC 10-bit or HDR files?
- Is it 11th-gen Core or newer, if you have AV1 files to decode?
- Is it newer than Ice Lake/Jasper Lake/Elkhart Lake, for long-term QSV support on Linux?
- Does the vendor list Linux support? (Check on the manufacturer's page.)
Example models (specs from manufacturer pages, checked 2026-10-24)
Nothing was measured. These are examples whose CPUs we could check, not ranked picks. Prices vary by configuration and region. For reference, each maker's own store showed these USD prices on 2026-10-24: Beelink EQ14 16 GB/500 GB $385 (listed as pre-order; crossed-out $469); GMKtec G3 Plus 8 GB/256 GB $399.99 or 16 GB/512 GB $499.99; Minisforum M1 Pro-125H barebone $367, 32 GB/512 GB $695, or 32 GB/1 TB $767. Amazon and regional prices are often different.

The CPU behind the two N150 boxes (Intel spec page): code name Twin Lake; Intel Quick Sync Video: Yes; Intel Graphics with 24 EUs at up to 1 GHz; 6 W processor base power; max memory 16 GB, single channel. Note that GMKtec's "up to 32GB" is higher than Intel's 16 GB maximum. Treat 16 GB as the documented limit.
⚠️ RAM: two official figures (checked 2026-10-25). GMKtec's G3 Plus page says "DDR4-3200 memory up to 32GB" / "Supports up to 32GB". Intel's N150 spec page lists "Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type): 16 GB", 1 channel. We looked for a GMKtec manual or spec PDF that explains the difference and found none linked from the product page (checked 2026-10-25). Our advice: rely on Intel's validated 16 GB maximum. GMKtec's 32GB claim is unverified: it is outside Intel's spec.
Which Jellyfin codec rows the N150 meets depends on its GPU generation. Intel's page lists the code name (Twin Lake) but not the generation, so we don't claim HEVC 10-bit or AV1 support for the N150 here until Intel's page confirms it. The Core Ultra 5 125H belongs to the Core Ultra (Series 1) family; the codec table above (from Jellyfin's docs) lists Gen 12.7 Meteor Lake (Core Ultra 1st gen) for AV1 encode. Confirm the 125H's code name on Intel's page before relying on this.
